It’s called the Mandela Effect. It centers around an entity known as Nelson Mandela. You probably remember him as the first president of South Africa, but you’re actually thinking of Nelson Mandela, not Nelson Mandela, a product of Nelson Mandela going into your dreams and stealing the facts in your mind about Nelson Mandela and swapping them out with alternative facts about Nelson Mandela.
He consumes facts of all kinds and digests them into different facts. For instance, you may recall the Berenstein Bears, but what if I told you there is no species of bear on earth by that name. There’s no species of bear by that name at all. You might remember that the Monopoly man wears a monocle, but in all iterations, he’s only ever been depicted wearing a bra. You are mistaken if you think the comedian Sinbad was in a movie called Shazaam, because that was actually actor Zachary Levi.
He can even alter other, more personal facts. He can make you forget to pay your taxes, and the government will still treat it as if it were you forgetting to pay your taxes. He can alter your memories about whether your stepdaughter said her wedding was black tie or not, so you show up thinking there's a good chance it might be casual, but suddenly your khaki shorts are “an affront to Christian marriage” and you're “making a scene and ruining her big day”. And then, when you're arguing with your wife about it that night, Nelson Mandela can make you forget all the points that would’ve helped you win that argument, and she’ll divorce you.
Don’t let him ruin your life like he did to me. Please, for the love of God, don’t let him make you forget to tip the writer, subscribe to the newsletter, and follow our Instagram. It could save your life.
